How much Medisave can I use per day for hospitalisation?
Medisave Usage for Hospitalisation
Your ability to use Medisave for hospitalisation expenses depends on whether you have insurance coverage (MediShield Life and Integrated Shield Plan) and the specific duration of your stay. The usage limits are set by the CPF Board.
Daily Hospitalisation Limits (After Insurance)
For approved hospitalisation, Medisave can be used to cover the cash portion of your bill after MediShield Life and any Integrated Shield Plan (IP) benefits have been disbursed. The specific daily limits are:
- First 2 days of hospitalisation: You can use up to S$550 per day from your Medisave account.
- Subsequent days (after the first 2 days): You can use up to S$400 per day from your Medisave account.
This usage applies to approved treatments, including surgery cash portions and rehabilitation costs incurred after the post-hospitalisation window ends.
Coverage for Insurance Premiums
It is important to note that Medisave is also used automatically to pay for mandatory healthcare insurance premiums:
- MediShield Life: Premiums are paid fully from Medisave.
- Integrated Shield Plan (IP) Upgrade: Medisave can cover the basic IP premium component, up to a certain limit (for those aged 65-85, this covers up to S$16.5k annually for IP upgrades, alongside MediShield Life premiums).
Medisave Account Balance
Your ability to utilize these amounts is contingent on having sufficient funds in your Medisave Account (MA). The MA is subject to the Basic Healthcare Sum (BHS), which is S$75,500 in 2025.
Other Approved Uses
Beyond daily ward charges, Medisave can also be used for approved outpatient treatments, such as cancer drug treatments (up to S$600 or S$1,200 per month), chronic disease management, approved vaccinations, and costs related to normal pregnancy and delivery.
